PORTRAIT TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP

  • FEATURES OF THE FACE

Amy will teach you the fundamentals of drawing, color layering, and quality construction of the human features and skin tone in this acrylic painting workshop designed for intermediate to advanced but open to all levels.

Instruction will cover more in-depth drawing/painting techniques for just the eyes, nose, and mouth (independent of their placement on the face).  Students will learn Amy's color layering technique as applied to human features and skin tones, how to efficiently draw features using a process that can be repeated with any photo, and how to capture a correct and fresh likeness without overworking. Curriculum will include painting the same reference images (students can also paint from their own images towards the end of class if desired), and each student will have the opportunity to practice each feature multiple times on their study canvas.  We will not be working on a complete portrait, rather practicing drills, color mixing, and proper technique of the individual human features to build skills for future portraits. If time allows, we will cover basic structure and alignment of the portrait as a whole.

This workshop is an ideal foundational class to a future human portrait workshop.
